Freedom | John 8v30-36
The path to freedom goes through surrender. Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Our culture tells us that freedom is having no master but yourself. But Jesus says true freedom is having the right master.
“Identity is not an issue of ‘who am I?’ but ‘whose am I?’" - Elisabeth Elliott
If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed - John 8v36
Our culture tells us that freedom is doing what you really want to do. But Jesus says true freedom is doing what you are meant to do; what you were designed to do.
Jesus does not come to rearrange the outside of my life the way I want it to be, He comes to rearrange the inside of my life the way God wants it to be.
There is no way for a human being to come to God that does not involve surrender.
Surrender is the glad and voluntary acknowledgement that there is a God and it is not me.
Jesus has a lot to say about death to self but it is always the death of a lesser self - a false self - so that a better and nobler self can come to life. It's always death to desires and behaviors that would end up killing you anyhow, so that you can come alive and thrive as the person God created you to be!
Surrender feels like death, but on the other side of death is freedom and life.
