Parables
In Parables: Stories of the Kingdom of God, we examine how Jesus employed a familiar form of Jewish teaching distinctively, telling stories that didn't plainly explain the Kingdom but unveiled it. The word parable comes from the Greek paraballo, meaning “to throw alongside,” a reflection of how these stories were set beside ordinary life to expose deeper spiritual realities. They invite listeners to discern truth through imagination and response. More than simple lessons, Jesus’ parables are provocations. They draw us in, catch us off guard, and leave us with a decision about who God is and how we will operate in His Kingdom.
